Current Iowa Teacher Subject Shortage Areas

To meet the subject-area qualification, teachers must meet both criteria:

  • The specific grade level endorsement
  • Teaching assignment in the subject-shortage area grade levels

Criteria examples:

If You Are... Then You Will...
A teacher with a K – 8 math endorsement, teaching only sixth-grade math in a middle school setting, Not qualify.
A teacher with a 5 – 12 math endorsement and teaching only sixth-grade math, Qualify.
