Education Related Deferment

If have at least one outstanding Federal Stafford, Supplemental Loans for Students (SLS), PLUS or Consolidation loan made before July 1, 1993, you may qualify for deferment while you:

Complete your internship or residency (for Stafford, SLS or PLUS loans made before
July 1, 1993).
Teach in designated teacher shortage areas (for Stafford or SLS loans made before
July 1, 1993).
Complete your graduate fellowship or receive rehabilitation training (for Stafford, SLS, PLUS or Consolidation loans).
Have a student dependent in a graduate fellowship program (for PLUS loans made before July 1, 1993).
