Military Deferment

You may qualify for a military deferment if you are deployed or mobilized during war, other military operation or national emergency.

The following Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) loans are eligible for military deferment:

• Stafford
• Supplemental Loan for Students (SLS)
• PLUS
• Consolidation

Note: Assistance may also be available to borrowers with Iowa Student Loan private loans.

Public Service Deferment

You may qualify for a public service deferment if you have one of the following:

• An outstanding FFELP loan made before July 1, 1993.
• A balance on a FFELP loan when you received another loan disbursed on or after July 1, 1993.
